The Journey Begins

Across the pages of the Bible we see the reality of God’s people. We are on a journey toward a spiritual home that will no doubt surpass in beauty all our wildest imaginations. In the Old Testament, God’s people are identified as the decedents of Abraham. God says to Abram in Genesis 12:2-3, “I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing…and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed”. This nation eventually became known as Israel.

As the years passed by, the Israelites found themselves enslaved in Egypt, where they would spend some 400 years working under the direction of the Egyptian Pharaoh. God called Moses to go to Egypt and instruct Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. After experiencing the plagues that God brought on the Egyptians, Pharaoh allowed the Israelites to leave. Once again, they found themselves under the leadership of God. No longer are they slaves in a foreign land. God has delivered them. And it is at this point that the journey toward the Promised Land begins.

Whether we choose to believe it or not, we are all on a journey. Some are content to simply go about their daily routine and not think much about the future. But the truth is we are all on a journey. As the Israelites wandered around in the wilderness while making their way to Canaan, we too are simply wandering through this life on our way to the spiritual Canaan, the Promised Land. God has prepared for us a place and as we journey through life, may we always remember that this world is not our home. We were made for something much greater than this. And God has promised the very best for those who seek to do his will. May we all come to acknowledge Christ as our Savior and submit ourselves in obedience to the Word of God.
