He Will Carry You Through

We serve a God who is kind and compassionate. I suppose that we could never fully explore the depth of God’s love for us. And though we speak of his care and concern, we often fail to live the very principles we ascribe to our heavenly Father. What I mean is this: We say that God cares for us, that he is infinitely concerned for our well-being. We say that God loves us more than we can possibly imagine. We say that God will never leave us or forsake us. (And in these we are correct.) But we tend to struggle in living out our conviction regarding God’s kindness and compassion. Now, I am not suggesting that we never live as though we truly believe God is concerned for us. I believe we do. Some. But a lot of times we experience difficulties and expend a great deal of worry and angst attempting to solve our problems on our own. Maybe it’s because subconsciously we don’t really believe that God is going to supply what we need in the moment. Maybe we have convinced ourselves that God needs our help.

Let me be clear. God expects us to use the resources he has given us. He doesn’t want us sitting idly by, unwilling to labor. However, above all, God desires that we put our full, complete trust in him and his provision. I think that’s why Paul said, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). And again, “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen” (Ephesians 3:20-21). A wise man once wrote, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6). Let’s make sure that when we confess our faith in God – believing that he is kind and compassionate, that he cares for us, that he loves us beyond measure, that he will never leave us or forsake us – we live it out! Trust God! He will carry you through!
